L3Harris has completed inspections on the first Royal Moroccan Air Force C-130 under a modernization program aimed at extending the fleet’s operational life.
Work on the aircraft is underway at L3Harris’ facility in Waco, Texas, where the aircraft is receiving maintenance and repairs, including a new standby instrument and digital engine display.
The second aircraft is scheduled to enter the program this fall, while a third is planned for later this year and will receive a broader avionics upgrade with a fully digital cockpit.
L3Harris said the upgrades are intended to improve aircraft availability while allowing Morocco to extend the service life of its existing C-130s rather than replacing them.
Morocco awarded L3Harris a multi-year contract in July 2025 to modernize multiple aircraft in its C-130 fleet. Under that agreement, the company is performing avionics modifications, depot maintenance, engine overhauls, and other support work, with the program scheduled to continue through 2029.
The C-130
The C-130 Hercules is a four-engine military transport aircraft designed for tactical airlift missions. Its ability to operate from relatively short and austere runways has made it a long-running workhorse for transporting troops and cargo, as well as supporting specialized missions.
L3Harris has more than four decades of experience working on C-130s and has supported fleets operated by the US Air Force, US Coast Guard, and international customers.
For the US Air Force, L3Harris serves as the prime contractor for the C-130 Avionics Modernization Program Increment 2.
The company has also integrated the Collins APS-7000 digital autopilot into a C-130H, which it says was the first successful integration of the system on the aircraft.
