Finnish space technology firm ICEYE is establishing a local presence based in Amsterdam, further strengthening its support for the Netherlands' sovereign space-based defense.
The Dutch location is launching a technology hub within the Netherlands Defence Technological Industrial Base (NLDTIB), which will support on-the-ground engineering capacity, space readiness training, defense stakeholder engagement, and NLDTIB co-development.
“A local entity lets us develop the next generation of capabilities closer to our Dutch customers and partners, inside the national industrial base, rather than from abroad. Our focus now is local R&D presence, a growing team, and deeper industry partnerships," said Joost Elstak, Global SVP for Sales of ICEYE’s Mission customer business and recently appointed CEO of ICEYE Netherlands.
Its establishment builds on an existing relationship, as Amsterdam tapped ICEYE in June 2025 to supply a full suite of intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) systems using synthetic aperture radar satellites, along with associated equipment and support.
Moreover, the presence moves ICEYE from a systems supplier into a national partner embedded within the NLDTIB, while supporting the Dutch military’s efforts to strengthen its space domain, including its establishment of the Space Command.
“The Netherlands has been an early adopter of ICEYE's sovereign capabilities and has demonstrated real ambition in growing its national ISR capabilities to become world leading,” noted company CEO and Co-founder Rafał Modrzewski.
Supplier to Partner
As space becomes a vital operational domain, countries are shifting to build active defense, tracking, and deterrence architectures.
ICEYE is increasingly positioning itself as a strategic partner to countries seeking to strengthen their space-based intelligence capabilities, expanding beyond technology supply through the establishment of local bodies and operations.
The Finnish firm also expanded its reach to Asia, having established a presence in India this month.
