Norway has ordered 20 Patria 6x6 armored vehicles under the multinational Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) program.
The vehicles will be delivered in command-and-control (C2) configurations equipped with Protector RS4 remote weapon stations. The agreement also covers related support, training, and spare parts, with deliveries scheduled to begin in 2026.
It includes options for an additional 40 C2 vehicle variants and RS4 remote weapon stations.
“Norway’s procurement is another important step in strengthening common protected mobility capabilities in the Nordics and across the wider CAVS community,” Executive Vice President of Patria’s Protected Mobility business area, Jussi Järvinen, said.
“By building on shared requirements, interoperable systems and common equipment such as the Patria 6x6 platform and RS4 weapon station configuration, participating countries can improve operational cooperation, simplify logistics and sustain capabilities more efficiently throughout the life cycle.
“For Norway and the Nordic countries, CAVS offers a concrete way to deepen defence cooperation and security of supply while delivering modern capability quickly.”
Director at the Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency, Gro Jære, said the procurement is “part of our continued efforts to strengthen operational capability, enhance interoperability with our allies, and contribute to a more sustainable and efficient development of defence capabilities.”
Norway’s CAVS Entry
The order follows Norway’s signing of a framework agreement with Patria in May to begin serial procurement of CAVS vehicles.
Oslo formally joined the multinational CAVS program in 2025, becoming its seventh participating nation.
Launched in 2020, the CAVS program aims to provide a common, modern 6x6 armored vehicle system based on Patria’s 6x6 platform.
It currently includes Finland, Latvia, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Germany, and the UK. Deliveries have been made to Finland, Sweden, Latvia, Denmark, and Germany, while CAVS vehicles are also operational in Ukraine.
Common Armored Vehicle System
Patria’s CAVS is based on the company’s 6x6 multirole armored personnel carrier and is designed for a service life of up to 30 years.
The vehicle is approximately 8 meters (26 feet) long and weighs up to 20 tons (18,144 kilograms/40,000 pounds), depending on its configuration. It accommodates a crew of three and can carry up to 10 troops.
Powered by a 394-horsepower Scania diesel engine, the CAVS can reach a top speed of 100 kilometers (62 miles) per hour and has a maximum range of 700 kilometers (435 miles).
