Lockheed Martin and California-based Saildrone have teamed up to launch two rounds of Joint-Air-to-Ground Missiles (JAGM) directly from a Surveyor-class unmanned surface vessel (USV).
During a live-fire exercise, an Adjunct Remote Engagement System (ARES) received targeting data for a simulated high-speed surface target then passed it on to the USV, which acted on the information on its own.
The engagement was conducted in partnership with the USS Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group and the US Navy, with the demo taken from concept to reality in just over six months, highlighting the companies’ ability to integrate proven capabilities onto commercial platforms.
