The death toll from a jihadist-separatist attack on Kati, near the capital Bamako, at the weekend has risen to at least 23, a hospital source told AFP on Tuesday.

In the only official toll given so far for weekend attacks across the country, the ruling junta said on Saturday evening that 16 civilians and soldiers had been wounded and there had been "limited" material damage.

"Saturday's attack on the Kati (military) camp killed at least 23 civilians and soldiers," the hospital official said on condition of anonymity.
