Airbus Defence and Space has selected Indra to develop a new full-flight simulator for the C295 military transport aircraft.

Airbus Defence and Space has selected Indra to develop a new full-flight simulator for the C295 military transport aircraft, as part of a future pilot training center planned at Getafe Air Base in Spain.

The simulator will support training for the Spanish Air and Space Force’s C295 crews and is intended to provide high-fidelity flight and mission rehearsal capabilities.

The system will incorporate Indra’s INVIS visual system, along with a geospecific terrain database designed to replicate real operating environments.

This allows crews to train using digitally modeled airports, runways, and operational areas relevant to their missions.

“In this virtual environment, pilots can also repeat procedures, maneuvers, and contingency plans as many times as necessary so that, when the time comes, they can execute them almost automatically, with the highest possible speed and level of coordination,” stated Indra.

Airbus is acting as prime contractor for the broader training center, which includes facility design and construction, simulator integration, and an initial support phase.

Support for Pilot Training

The contract further expands Indra’s military simulation portfolio, as the company has delivered more than 250 simulation systems to over 50 customers across 28 countries, spanning both civil and military aviation. 

Last year, the Spanish firm delivered Europe’s first full-mission simulator for the CH-47F Chinook, now operational at the Spanish Army Aviation Academy’s Helicopter Simulation Center in Colmenar Viejo, where it supports pilot training and networked mission exercises.

Indra was also selected in 2024 to develop a simulator for the C295 Maritime Patrol Aircraft and has previously worked on training systems for platforms including the A400M, A330 MRTT, Eurofighter, and NH90 helicopter.
