The Brazilian Air Force has bought two commercial Airbus A330-200 aircraft which the service will convert into multi-role tankers.
The Brazilian Air Force has signed an $80 million contract with Azul Brazilian Airlines to supply two commercial Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
The A330-200 will be converted into Multi-Role Tanker Transport (MRTT) aircraft and targeted to be operational by 2024, according to an air force press release.
The airline company will have up to 150 days to deliver the passenger aircraft to the Brazilian Air Force.
Once the conversion is complete, the two planes will receive the KC-30 designation and be deployed with the Second Squadron of the Second Transport Group at Galeão Air Base.
The aircraft will be used to perform in-flight refueling, logistic air transport, and humanitarian aid.

The Brazilian Air Force has only had one aircraft capable of performing in-flight refueling and equipment transport, the Boeing KC-137.
However, the aerial vehicle last flew in 2013.
Brazil currently operates the KC-390 Millennium for cargo and personnel transport.
With the arrival of the KC-30, Brazil plans to utilize the aircraft to achieve a “significant increase in operability.”
“As Brazil is a country of continental dimensions, it is imperative to have the ability to deploy its air assets, troops, and equipment anywhere, anytime,” the Brazilian Air Force stated.
About the Airbus A330-200
The Airbus A330-200 can carry up to 250 passengers, has a maximum takeoff weight of 242 tons, and can travel up to 13,450 kilometers (8,357 miles).
Its military version, the A330 MRTT, is operated by France, the UK, and Australia.
