The final CV-22 Osprey transport and cargo aircraft has entered production, with its completion coming in the next few months.
Aerospace giants Bell and Boeing have announced that the final CV-22 Osprey military transport and cargo aircraft has entered production, with the project's Program of Record (POR) completion coming in the next few months.
The final CV-22 will be completed at Bell's assembly center in Amarillo, Texas, where it will roll out for future special operations missions that require advanced speed and range capabilities deemed too complex for other military aircraft.
Following the completion of the POR, the companies' Team Osprey is scheduled to continue support for the army by implementing sustainment and upgrades for the variant.
"The CV-22 Osprey represents the dedication and determination of all those who had a hand in creating a unique aircraft and capability for the US Air Force," said Boeing Defense, Space & Security - Vertical Lift VP Kathleen Jolivette.
Bell and Boeing continue to manufacture new Osprey variants, the MV-22 and CMV-22, designed for the US Marine Corps and Navy.
The Osprey Takes Flight
Some of the Osprey's recent missions include deployment of a US Air Force Special Operations Command counter-terrorism fleet, as well as an evacuation mission in 2020 involving 194 individuals from the US Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq.
The aircraft resumed its flight operations last year following an incident in 2023, where an Osprey crashed in Japan and killed eight US airmen.
The air force confirmed that its operations have resumed following meticulous maintenance and procedural mitigation training.
