Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has partnered with Daronmont Technologies to deliver the Barak-MX Air and Missile Defence system to Australia.
IAI said it would leverage Daronmont’s “proven integration, development, and manufacturing capabilities” to deliver the system.
The partnership supports Australia’s Medium Range Ground-Based Air Defence (MRGBAD) project.
Proven System
The Israeli, Indian, and Azeri militaries currently operate the Barak. The system provides wide-area and targeted defense capabilities against land, air, and naval threats.
The system comprises an AESA radar, a weapons control system, launchers, and interceptors for various ranges.
"We’re looking forward to developing our [Australian Industry Capability] partnership with IAI and working together to deliver a state-of-the-art solution designed to address the capability gap in medium-range ground-based air defense, should the (Australian) Ministry of Defense choose IAI to deliver AIR-6502," Daronmont Technologies CEO Ben Norris said.
Medium Range Ground-Based Air Defence
The MRGBAD project is part of the Australian Defence Force’s Integrated Air and Missile Defence program to enhance the country’s air defense capability through a “ground-based middle-layer area air defense” system.
Canberra intends to spend between 4.9 and 7.3 billion Australian dollars ($3.7 and $4.88 billion) on the initial capability, with delivery in the late 2020s.
The country aims to build on the capability in the coming decades.
