The site is part of the company’s broader goal of expanding capacity to retrofit commercial A330s to military configuration in support of growing international demands.
Other works inside the center cover standard maintenance, repair, overhaul, as well as upgrades for A330s already commissioned into service.
Airbus is expected to inaugurate the facility by 2027, increasing the firm’s annual conversion rate from five to seven platforms.
“The choice of Seville is not accidental; it is a strategic decision," local news outlet La Razón quoted Airbus Spain President Francisco Javier Sánchez as saying.
"The Andalusian capital meets all the critical requirements for the military conversion of an aircraft as complex as the A330.”
Sources noted that the hub is anticipated to support about 200 direct and 400 indirect jobs, including renovations of Airbus’ existing infrastructure in Seville.
“Airbus will make an investment that includes upgrading industrial equipment in the hangars, implementing advanced processes, and an ambitious training program for highly qualified local talent,” the company said.
A330 for Italy
The announcement follows a deal signed with Airbus for the supply of six A330s for the Italian government.
That contract is valued at approximately $1.6 billion and includes up to 10 years of related support services.
The new planes will replace Rome’s existing Boeing KC-767 systems, employed in 2011 for similar tanker and transport roles.
