The Ukrainian Armed Forces will deploy the domestically produced B-1 unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) following the defense ministry’s approval.
Ukraine described the UAV as a lightweight bomber made for precision strikes, powered by a low-noise, high-performance engine that enables it to remain airborne for several hours.
It is able to carry multiple types of ammunition, designed to be quickly deployed and retracted, and resilient to electronic warfare.
Although technical specifications about the B-1’s dimensions, range, and speed were not disclosed, the munition can reportedly destroy enemy warfighters, armored vehicles, and other military targets on both the frontlines and behind enemy lines.
Ukrainian Drones
Drones have become crucial components of Kyiv’s defense strategy in its war against Russia, with approximately 95 percent of them produced by Ukrainian manufacturers, as stated by the country’s Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov to Euronews.
The country previously conducted a successful test of a long-range drone that can reach up to 3,000 kilometers (1,864 miles), introduced a drone frontline initiative, and enabled combat units to rapidly acquire drones without relying on centralized acquisition.
But amid the drone development efforts, traditional weapons still remain “the backbone of the protection of Ukrainian cities and civilians,” said Fedorov.
In early April, President Volodymyr Zelensky requested 10 more Patriot air defense systems following a Russian attack on his home city.
