Ukraine Begins Arming Its Crop Dusters With Missiles to Fight Drones

A new unconventional air defense asset was seen flying around Ukrainian airspace: a crop duster aircraft armed with homing missiles.

The plane itself is a Czechoslovakian Z-137, capable of speeds up to 285 kilometers (177 miles) per hour and a maximum altitude of 5,500 meters (18,044 feet).

Normally used for agricultural work to apply pesticides and fertilizers, it has been repurposed by the Ukrainian Air Force with two Soviet-era Vympel R-73 air-to-air missiles to target hostile drones.
