The system identifies malaria-carrying mosquito species in under two minutes to support faster battlefield health risk assessments.
US Army personnel in South Korea are exploring AI-powered mosquito traps designed to counter malaria threats that could impact combat readiness.
The system combines traditional mosquito traps with cameras and offline AI software trained to identify local mosquito species with more than 90 percent accuracy.
“Malaria can be easily prevented, but units and commanders must know whether the threat is present in order to take appropriate actions,” Major Michael Dunbar of the US Army’s 5th Medical Detachment said.
