Aurelius Systems has raised $40 million to expand production of its directed-energy counter-drone platform as demand for autonomous air defense systems continues to grow.
The California-based company said the capital will accelerate development of its flagship Archimedes platform while expanding manufacturing capacity and operations. It also plans to invest in vertical integration to reduce supply chain risks, improve access to critical components, and strengthen long-term production resilience.
Part of the funding will support broader product offerings and expansion into new markets as governments increase investment in counter-drone technologies.
“The increased use of coordinated drone threats has fundamentally changed the definition of ‘readiness,’ which is why we developed a scalable platform built for speed, volume, and the economics of today’s operating environment to protect the people, assets, and infrastructure that matter most,” Aurelius CEO Michael LaFramboise said.
The announcement follows several recent milestones for the company, including a partnership with American Rheinmetall to integrate the Archimedes autonomous directed-energy system onto robotic combat vehicles.
Aurelius currently employs 19 people and expects to more than double its workforce to over 40 employees by the end of 2026.
Raising Funds
Aurelius joins a growing list of defense technology companies raising funding to expand counter-drone capabilities.
In June, Allen Control Systems raised $200 million in a Series B funding round, valuing the company at $2.2 billion.
The funding will expand manufacturing, accelerate deployment of its AI-enabled Bullfrog autonomous weapon station, and support the development of additional counter-drone products.
During the same month, Sweden's Front Ventures AB invested 1.5 million euros ($1.7 million) in Polish-Ukrainian company Molfar Defence Technologies to advance radar systems designed to detect small drones and other low-altitude aerial threats.
