AV Has New UGV That Can Fit in a Backpack and Go Into High-Risk Zones

A new backpackable unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) from AeroVironment (AV) could help troops conduct reconnaissance and explosive ordnance disposal missions without risking their lives.

The platform, known as the TOM 50 RE, weighs less than 10 kilograms (22 pounds), offers up to five hours of endurance, and supports payloads of up to 5 kilograms (11,02 pounds).

Developed by AV subsidiary Telerob, it features a tracked design, a stair-climbing flipper mechanism, and mobility attachments that allow it to navigate obstacles and uneven terrain.
