The agreement follows an initial pilot program and combines two subscription services using data from the company’s Gen-2 and Gen-3 constellations, collecting imagery at a resolution of 35 centimeters (14 inches).
Under the deal, the customer will receive priority access to imagery and analytics covering a designated area of operations.
The On-Demand subscription will provide additional coverage of locations worldwide, with imagery typically delivered within 90 minutes of collection and revisit rates of up to once per hour over certain areas.
Operators will also be able to access archived imagery and use AI-powered object-detection tools.
The services will be integrated into the customer’s existing systems through BlackSky’s Spectra platform, which supports satellite tasking, data delivery, and automated analysis across multiple locations.
BlackSky Expands AI Tools for Military Intel
The contract comes after BlackSky announced last month that it was developing AI tools to accelerate the analysis of satellite imagery during military operations.
Under several US research and development contracts, the company is improving automated target-recognition technology and developing software to assess physical and functional damage following strikes.
The tools are designed to operate within government customers’ classified systems.
Imagery collected by BlackSky’s systems can support the automated detection and classification of more than 35 types of tactically relevant objects, including vehicles, aircraft, and vessels.
The satellites can revisit areas of interest several times a day and deliver intelligence within 60 minutes, reducing the volume of imagery analysts must review manually during time-sensitive operations.
