The facility, located in Cummings Research Park, will develop mission-processing technologies for space, intelligence, and national security applications.
It begins operations with a small engineering and product development team, which the company plans to expand as new programs are launched.
Frontgrade is also working with the University of Alabama in Huntsville on internship and cooperative education programs.
The company produces analog and radiation-hardened electronics for the aerospace, defense, and medical sectors.
Its portfolio includes radio frequency and microwave components, microelectronics, antennas, processors, and signal-processing subsystems.
Recent Activities
The Huntsville expansion follows several developments across Frontgrade’s defense and space businesses.
In June, the company said its marine antenna systems supported long-range communications aboard US Navy capital ships during an extended carrier strike group deployment, which concluded with the group’s return to Norfolk, Virginia.
A month earlier, Frontgrade secured $64.5 million in contracts from undisclosed customers for electronic support and electronic warfare systems.
The work covers radio frequency architectures, mission processing, signal-chain integration, and other electronics designed for operations in contested electromagnetic environments.
Earlier this year, its Swedish subsidiary Frontgrade Gaisler partnered with the Swedish Security and Defence Industry Association.
The subsidiary develops radiation-resistant processors and chip designs for satellites and other equipment exposed to high levels of radiation.
