Kratos received a contract valued at $7 million for a counter-unmanned aerial system designed to detect, track, and classify airborne threats.

Kratos Defense & Security Solutions has received a production contract valued at $7 million for a counter-unmanned aerial system designed to detect, track, and classify airborne threats.

According to the company, the system is intended to identify low-profile drones and other aerial targets, such as cruise missiles.

Kratos did not disclose the customer, deployment location, or the system's specific configuration, citing security considerations.

Commenting on the contract, Kratos President and CEO Eric DeMarco noted that the spread of drones, missiles, and loitering munitions among state and non-state actors is increasing demand for counter-air and air defense technologies.

Expanding Operations

The announcement comes as Kratos continues to expand its defense programs and international partnerships.

Under a US Air Force contract, GE Aerospace and Kratos were jointly awarded $12.4 million to design a next-generation expendable engine for small Collaborative Combat Aircraft.

Separately, Taiwan’s National Chung-Shan Institute of Science and Technology (NCSIST) and Kratos conducted tests of the Mighty Hornet IV attack uncrewed aerial vehicle.

The trial confirmed that the NCSIST-developed payload and mission system operated correctly when integrated with the drone, without requiring design changes following earlier planning and subsystem evaluation phases.

Moreover, the company recently announced plans to expand its operations in Birmingham, Alabama, adding a new facility of 40,000 square feet (3,700 square meters).

The new building will include office space as well as areas dedicated to the development and integration of electro-mechanical systems.
