Motorola Solutions is investing $100 million to expand production capacity for Silvus Technologies’ tactical communications systems as demand grows for military and public safety networking equipment.
The expansion centers on a new 165,000-square-foot (15,328-square-meter) manufacturing facility in Salt Lake City, Utah, which will support the large-scale production of Silvus’ StreamCaster mobile ad hoc network radios.
Silvus Technologies develops wireless networking systems for contested and high-interference environments, with customers across the defense, law enforcement, and emergency response sectors.
Motorola Solutions CEO Jack Molloy said the investment “helps ensure that Silvus is prepared for the growing demand for their industry-leading mesh networking and electromagnetic spectrum operations solutions.”
The company added that the project is expected to create 200 jobs.
The investment follows Motorola’s earlier expansion efforts in Los Angeles and reflects broader growth in demand for resilient communications systems across military and security operations.
Defense Communications Investments
Defense and communications companies have expanded manufacturing and technology operations across the US as demand rises for secure networking, satellite connectivity, and battlefield communications systems.
In May, RTX announced a $26.5-million investment to expand Collins Aerospace’s facility in Largo, Florida, increasing production capacity for aviation radar and defense communications systems while adding more than 100 jobs.
The same month, Nokia Federal Solutions and Lockheed Martin advanced efforts to bring secure 5G communications to the battlefield by combining Nokia’s 5G technology with Lockheed’s 5G.MIL system under the Pentagon’s open-architecture framework.
In March, the US Navy also renewed and expanded orders for secure communications hardware from Mobix Labs for its surface fleet, including components designed to protect naval systems from interference and disruption.
