Northrop Grumman has received a $3.28 billion contract to develop a next-gen missile interceptor system for the US Missile Defense Agency.
Northrop Grumman has received a $3.28 billion contract to develop the future Ground-Based Midcourse Defense weapon system program for the US Missile Defense Agency.
The contract includes the next-generation interceptor's (NGI) design, assembly, trials, and fielding.
The deal is a continuation of a $1.6 billion contract awarded to Northrop Grumman and Lockheed Martin in March 2021 to create two NGI designs for the program’s initial phase.
The NGI weapon system combines data gathered from radars, command and control systems, space sensors, and other available interceptors to improve protection against intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The interceptor uses approaches such as fire control, enemy vehicle engagement, interceptor boosts, and US military ground-based weapon systems coordination.
The ordering period is scheduled from July 2022 to July 2027 and will be assembled in the firm’s facility in Huntsville, Alabama.
