The US Army could soon gain a new long-endurance sensing platform through Icarus’ high-altitude, solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle.

The US Army could soon gain a new long-endurance sensing platform through Icarus’ high-altitude, solar-powered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).

Called APOLLO, the UAV is designed to operate in the stratosphere at altitudes above 60,000 feet (18,288 meters) while providing coverage of up to 7,500 square kilometers (2,896 square miles).

According to the company, it can continuously monitor targeted areas with data latency of just 5 to 10 milliseconds.
