Ultra Maritime has secured multiple contracts from Lockheed Martin Canada to provide lifecycle support for the Royal Canadian Navy’s River-class destroyers.
Lockheed Martin Canada serves as the program’s prime combat systems integrator, supplying the Aegis combat system, SPY-7 radar, and CMS 330 combat management system for the future warships.
Under the contracts, Ultra Maritime will deliver engineering services, spare parts support, and readiness activities to help sustain the destroyers from construction and testing through entry into operational service.
River-Class Destroyer
The Royal Canadian Navy plans to acquire up to 15 River-class destroyers to replace its aging Halifax-class frigates, awarding Nova Scotia company Irving Shipbuilding a contract to build the program’s initial three warships.
With their design adapted from BAE Systems' Type 26 global combat ship, each destroyer has a 7,800-tonne displacement and measures around 151 meters (495 feet) long and about 21 meters (69 feet) wide.
They are set to sail at a maximum speed of 27 knots (50 kilometers/31 miles per hour) and reach ranges of 7,000 nautical miles (12,964 kilometers/8,055 miles).
The lead vessel HMCS Fraser is expected to arrive in the early 2030s, while the final ship is estimated to be delivered by the 2050s.
