The US Department of the Air Force will accelerate the integration of commercial space technologies into military programs through an agreement with the Texas Space Commission.
The US Department of the Air Force has entered into a 10-year agreement worth up to $300 million with the Texas Space Commission to accelerate the integration of commercial space technologies into military programs.
Under the arrangement, the Air Force Research Laboratory will work with the state agency to identify technologies developed by Texas-based companies, universities, and research institutions that could meet air force and space force requirements.
The Texas Space Commission will act as an intermediary, helping companies demonstrate their technologies, connect with military customers, and move promising prototypes toward formal acquisition programs.
Companies will primarily engage with the military through the Space Force Front Door, a central portal intended to simplify access to technical experts and acquisition organizations, particularly for businesses without previous defense contracts.
The initiative will focus on commercial technology integration, faster contracting, joint development with industry, and domestic supply-chain resilience.
It is also intended to shorten the transition between commercial prototypes and operational military systems.
Texas hosts more than 2,100 aerospace companies, alongside research universities, manufacturing facilities, launch operations, and NASA’s Johnson Space Center.
Space Force Front Door
Administered by Space Systems Command, the Space Force Front Door serves as an initial screening and navigation service rather than a procurement office.
Companies can submit information about their technologies, review mission areas seeking commercial solutions, and participate in industry events with government representatives.
If a proposal is considered relevant, Front Door can direct the company to the appropriate mission owner or acquisition organization.
Submitted technologies are also cataloged to help US Space Force officials assess existing commercial capabilities and shape future requirements.
