The US Marines have contracted Oshkosh Defense to deliver Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires Block 2 carriers.
The US Marine Corps has awarded Oshkosh Defense a $92-million contract to deliver Remotely Operated Ground Unit for Expeditionary Fires (ROGUE-Fires) Block 2 carriers with enhanced autonomy.
Based on Oshkosh’s Joint Light Tactical Vehicle, ROGUE-Fires serves as the mobile launcher for the Navy/Marine Expeditionary Ship Interdiction System, which is armed with a pair of anti-ship Naval Strike Missiles.
The unmanned platform is equipped with Forterra’s AutoDrive autonomy system, enabling it to navigate planned routes, avoid obstacles, traverse rough terrain, and reposition without a driver onboard, including in contested and GPS-denied environments.
Enhanced Autonomy
Under the Block 2 contract, Forterra will integrate its next-generation autonomy technology into the semi-autonomous vehicle, enabling enhanced mission capabilities and expanded weapon system integration in support of Expeditionary Advanced Base Operations and distributed long-range precision fires missions.
Deliveries are expected to continue through 2031.
“The current fight demands autonomous systems that increase force effectiveness, extend operational reach, and preserve combat power in contested environments,” Forterra Vice President of Defense Pat Acox explained.
“By integrating AutoDrive into ROGUE-Fires Block 2, we’re advancing a more survivable and mobile approach to sea control from the land domain, enabling distributed operations in GPS-denied environments while reducing operator burden and increasing mission adaptability.”
