The US Navy has taken delivery of its future littoral combat ship, the “USS Marinette,” from American defense giant Lockheed Martin.

The delivery follows the vessel’s successful acceptance trial on November 22, which included demonstrations of its main propulsion, auxiliaries, and electrical systems.
The USS Marinette has already proven its operational capabilities, especially steering, quick reversal, anchor drop, and combat system detect-to-engage sequence.
According to program manager Andy Gold, the new vessel will help ensure the service is ready to accomplish various maritime security missions.
“Today marks a significant milestone in the life of the future USS Marinette,” he said. “I look forward to the commissioning of Marinette later this year and recognizing the contribution of her namesake town and the great shipbuilders who bring these warships to life.”
The combat ship is scheduled to be commissioned in 2023 and will be homeported in Florida.
Three more littoral combat ships for the US Navy are under construction. These include the future USS Nantucket, the USS Beloit, and the USS Cleveland.
