German Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck reportedly approved Ukraine’s request for the Panzerhaubitze 2000 howitzers on July 13 after receiving it in April.
German arms manufacturer Krauss-Maffei Wegmann has already begun manufacturing the howitzers, which have a range of 30-60 kilometers (18.5-37 miles) depending upon the shell.
Delivery to Take Years
Full delivery of the weapons is expected to take several years, Reuters wrote, adding that the timing of the first delivery is unclear.
Ukraine announced the deployment of seven Panzerhaubitze guns last month that Berlin had promised to send in May.
Meanwhile, Ukraine received three of the 15 promised German Gepard anti-aircraft armored fighting vehicles on Monday. A dozen German Leopard tanks are also expected to arrive soon.
