India test-fires Prahaar short-range ballistic missile

India successfully flight tested the Prahaar short-range surface-to-surface ballistic missile, media reported.

The indigenously developed missile was launched from from a mobile launcher at the Integrated Test Range in Odisha, the New Indian Express reported.

“The missile was launched from a road-mobile launcher, which can carry six missiles at a time and can be fired in salvo mode,” a defense official said.

First tested on July 21, 2011, the single-stage solid-fuelled Prahaar has a range of 150 kilometres (93 miles) and can carry a 200 kg (440 lb) payload. It sits between the 40 km-range Pinaka rocket system and the Prithvi missile, which has a 250 km to 350 km range.

On September 17, India successfully flight tested its indigenous man-portable anti-tank guided missile twice, the Ministry of Defence said.
