The U.S. State Department approved $113 million sale of 56 AIM 120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Japan.
The U.S. State Department approved $113 million sale of 56 AIM 120C-7 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAMs) to Japan, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency said.
"The proposed sale will provide Japan a critical air defense capability to assist in defending the Japanese homeland and US personnel stationed there," DISA said in a press release said on Wednesday.
The potential sale also includes containers, weapon support and support equipment, as well as spare and repair parts, among other services.
Raytheon Missile Systems, located in Tucson, Arizona, will be the principal contractor for the deal.
The company describes AMRAAM as "the world's most sophisticated air dominance weapon." It is procured by 37 countries and has been integrated onto different models of US-made fighter jets, including the F-16, F-15, F/A-18.
