West Australian firm Hyperion Systems has launched what it describes as the southern hemisphere’s first 3D-printed unmanned surface vessel (USV), the ASTRA 460, at a defense and security expo in Perth.
The 4.6-meter (15-foot) drone boat was developed in collaboration with Versatile Marine and manufactured at Hyperion’s Henderson facility. Greenroom Robotics supplied the AI-powered navigation and control system through its GAMA software platform.
The ASTRA 460 was produced using Hyperion’s proprietary TitanCell manufacturing system, a “factory-in-a-box” that integrates large-format 3D printing, robotics, and recycled polymer waste to build marine infrastructure, components, and vessel hulls.
