Special military adviser to Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, Major General Yahya Rahim Safavi, revealed the development while addressing a military academy in Tehran.
Highlighting the country’s employment of science and technology in the military domain, the former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Commander-in-Chief said that drones were deployed to monitor the recent missile and artillery strikes against terrorist groups in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region.
Iranian Drones Sold to Russia?
The development comes on the heels of a report claiming that Iranian government officials struck a deal with Russia on October 6 to supply surface-to-surface ballistic missiles and drones, including the Shahed-136 “kamikaze,” which has reportedly been used by the Russians against Ukrainian infrastructure and civilian targets recently.
IRGC Commander-in-Chief Major General Hossein Salami reportedly revealed last month that Tehran had sold “military equipment to foreign customers, including some major world powers, and was training them to employ the gear.”
However, Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian denied allegations that Tehran sold weapons to Russia in its fight against Ukraine, reiterating the country’s stance of not providing military equipment to any party involved in the war.
