European skies could soon see a new hybrid drone as the European Defence Agency (EDA) taps Survey Copter to study and develop a platform for multi-role missions.

The aircraft will be based on parent company Airbus’ Capa-X unmanned aerial system (UAS) and is intended to support missions such as surveillance, reconnaissance, electronic warfare, aerial payload delivery, and automated in-flight refueling.

Developed under the Multi-Mission Unmanned Aircraft System project, the program will run for 48 months with a budget of about 1.1 million euros ($1.2 million).
