Turbine-electric VTOL demonstrator is a hybrid aircraft with a turbine generator and Joby’s SuperPilot autonomy, offering extended range and higher payload.

Joby Aviation has kicked off a new era in long-range vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) operations with the successful first flight of its turbine-electric demonstrator.

The aircraft recently lifted off from the company’s Marina, California, site and will continue ground and airborne testing ahead of operational demonstrations with the US government customers.

Built on Joby’s all-electric air taxi platform, the demonstrator pairs a hybrid turbine powertrain with the SuperPilot autonomous stack, extending range while increasing payload capacity.
