Redwire has secured a multi-year contract to supply its drone system to an undisclosed NATO country as allied militaries continue expanding their uncrewed surveillance and reconnaissance fleets.

The contract, valued in the high eight figures, covers delivery of the Penguin Mk3 unmanned aerial system (UAS) as part of a broader modernization effort focused on tactical drone capabilities.

According to Redwire, the Penguin Mk3 builds on the company’s existing Penguin drone platform already used by military operators worldwide. The updated version adds greater modularity and expanded payload flexibility intended for changing battlefield and surveillance missions.

Program support and sustainment will run through Redwire’s European operations, which the company said will handle engineering, maintenance, and long-term operational support for the customer.

“Penguin Mk3 builds on years of operational, combat experience to deliver a scalable, adaptable solution aligned with the demands of modern defense environments,” Redwire President Steven Adlich said.

Ukraine's Penguin UAS

Redwire said the Penguin family has already been deployed in contested environments, particularly in Ukraine, with more than 250 systems having been delivered directly to the Ukrainian Armed Forces since Russia’s full-scale invasion in 2022.

In September 2025, Redwire announced follow-on deliveries of Penguin UAS aircraft to the Ukrainian Armed Forces through its subsidiary Edge Autonomy. 

NATO has also expanded multinational cooperation programs tied to drones, air defense, and next-generation battlefield systems over the past year.

In a February 2026 update, the alliance identified drones and autonomous systems among its major capability development priorities for member states.
