The UK has awarded Callen-Lenz a 4.99-million-pound ($6.7-million) contract for kamikaze drones, bolstering deep fire capability of its forces.
The contract covers the Nyan One Way Effector, a system already tested and used by Ministry of Defence departments.
According to the award notice, the deal was “necessary to enhance or maintain operational capability, effectiveness, readiness for action, safety or security of the armed forces.”
Nyan is the only off-the-shelf product of its type registered on the Military Aircraft Register and integrates common government-furnished equipment.
“For these reasons it is the only feasible option to bring into service in the near term on the grounds of safety and legality,” the notice said.
Boosting UK Drone Capabilities
This latest contract follows several recent UK defense procurements involving unmanned systems.
In 2025, Modini Limited received a 4.5-million-pound ($6 million) contract from the UK Ministry of Defence to deliver precision strike drones.
It was awarded through the Human Machine Teaming Framework, with Modini selected from industry on the basis of technical capability and delivery schedule.
In late 2025, Flyby Technology was selected to supply an initial Jackal system as part of autonomous “airborne effector” demonstrations intended to explore force protection and battlefield autonomy potential.
Other initiatives, such as the UK‑Ukraine Project OCTOPUS, aim to mass produce interceptor drones in the UK to counter unmanned aerial threats — a collaboration where Ukraine’s IP complements British industrial capacity.
