US Marine Corps Receives ROMULUS-25 Drone Boats From HII, MetalCraft

HII and UK-based MetalCraft Marine have delivered and trialed two ROMULUS-25 unmanned surface vessels (USV) for the US Marine Corps, marking progress under a Defense Innovation Unit program for autonomous maritime systems.

The platforms were delivered in December 2025 and have since completed at-sea demonstrations of autonomous mission tasks, according to the consortium in a recent update.

ROMULUS-25 is a 27-foot (8-meter) high-speed interceptor vessel capable of carrying up to 1,000 pounds (454 kilograms) of payload and operating at ranges of up to 1,000 nautical miles (1,151 miles/1,852 kilometers).
