Azerbaijan has commissioned 20 new military facilities for its air defense units as it continues investing in infrastructure to support combat readiness.
Azerbaijan has commissioned 20 new military facilities for its air defense units as it continues investing in infrastructure to support combat readiness and airspace protection.
The country's ministry of defense said the newly completed sites have been built in various regions to support the service and operational needs of personnel.
Facilities include barracks, dining halls, kitchens, medical stations, weapons storage rooms, utility buildings, bathhouses, water supply systems, and backup power generators. Communication networks and fire alarm systems have also been installed.
The new infrastructure is intended to improve living conditions while supporting the operational readiness of forces.
During the site visit, Defense Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov instructed the Air Combat Command to maintain continuous protection of Azerbaijan's airspace and ensure personnel receive thorough training on newly acquired air defense equipment.
He also emphasized understanding the tactical and technical characteristics of modern weapons and improving their effective use during exercises and combat operations.
Azerbaijan Enhancing Air Defense
The new facilities complement a series of recent investments aimed at strengthening Azerbaijan's air defense network.
In 2024, Azerbaijan signed an agreement with Pakistan to buy JF-17 Block III fighter aircraft. The multirole jets, equipped with modern air-to-air missiles and advanced radar systems, are expected to enhance the country's ability to defend its airspace and support integrated operations.
The country also acquired Barak MX systems from Israel Aerospace Industries in 2023. The system is designed to intercept aircraft, cruise missiles, helicopters, and unmanned aerial systems at multiple ranges, significantly expanding the country's layered air defense capability.
