The British Army has received the first trance of XACT Night Vision Goggles as part of a $16.2 million contract Elbit Systems UK won in June.
The British Army has received the first trance of XACT Night Vision Goggles as part of an 11.5 million pound ($16.2 million) contract the UK Ministry of Defence awarded Elbit Systems UK in June.
The company supplied lightweight micro-binocular XACT nv33 in a helmet-mounted configuration with improved capabilities. The image intensifying goggles enhance surveillance and enable users to detect the enemy early, react quickly, and maintain a tactical edge at night.
The XACT nv33 is certified for driving vehicles, and also suitable for parachute jumping and maritime operations. It improves user safety, extends usage time, and reduces neck stress. However, its specialty remains to aid users' abilities to act in dark conditions, even in complete darkness.
“The manufacture and rapid supply of the XACT nv33 NVGs marks another step in our contribution to the UK Armed Forces, and the presence of DE&S at our facility in Kent reflects that. The NVGs have been proven to enhance operational effectiveness of several militaries globally,” Martin Fausset, CEO of Elbit Systems UK said in a statement.
The XACT goggles are already in use with many NATO countries including Germany and the Netherlands. The Australian and Israeli armies also use the system.
