The coalition involves Germany and nine other partners and is in addition to eight existing coalitions, including for artillery, fighter jets, and demining.
It seeks to ensure control of the electromagnetic spectrum for effective combat.
Goals
The effort’s goals include protection of friendly communication and disruption of the enemy’s persistent reconnaissance, drone defense, and effectiveness of weapon systems.
At the administrative level, the coalition will ensure the coordination of efforts, such as equipment procurement, training, and policy development.
Not only will it take care of Ukraine’s present needs, but it will lay the foundation for future capability development.
Like other countries that have sought to learn from Ukraine’s battlefield experiences, Germany too intends to gain insights from the effort to incorporate them in future capability development.
German Military Aid
Additionally, Germany announced an additional 11 billion euros ($12.53 billion) in military funding for Ukraine until 2029.
Out of the amount, 3 billion euros ($3.4 billion) is for this year.
The overall amount will be spent for the procurement of critical weapon systems such as 4 IRIS-T air defense systems, 30 Patriot guided missiles, 15 Leopard 1A5 main battle tanks, 14 artillery systems, 300 reconnaissance drones, and 100 ground surveillance radars.
"We need a militarily strong Ukraine. Only then can the negotiation process lead to a lasting and just peace solution," German Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius said.
