Europe Pushes Sovereign Adaptive AI for Military Unmanned Systems

Two European defense firms are moving to build sovereign battlefield AI ecosystems for autonomous drones, aiming to reduce reliance on foreign technology providers.

Finland’s Patria and AI firm NestAI have partnered to bring adaptive artificial intelligence to unmanned systems, targeting improved performance in rapidly evolving battlefield conditions.

NestAI founder and chairman Peter Sarlin said European defense forces require battlefield AI that can “evolve after deployment,” adding that it “needs to be built in Europe, by Europeans, for European operational requirements.”
