General Dynamics European Land Systems (GDELS) has delivered three upgraded Piranha IIIC armored vehicles to the Spanish Marine Corps.
The upgrade is under the F10 mid-life maintenance program, which includes a total of 21 vehicles, including the five already delivered.
The program seeks to enhance the vehicles' capabilities and extend their service life.
It includes “disassembly of the vehicles, repair, and acceptance tests of all subsystems,” GDELS explained.
“They are then reassembled, painted and final tests are carried out, all accompanied by acceptance by the military inspection.”
Key Upgrades
Key upgraded systems and subsystems include driveline and safety gears, according to Army Recognition.
The program ensures the vehicle effectively deals with modern threats and improves its overall performance, including mobility and crew comfort.
Piranha Heavy Mission Carrier
Meanwhile, GDELS unveiled a more maneuverable Piranha variant last month designed for better cross-country mobility and trench-crossing.
The 10-wheel Piranha Heavy Mission Carrier features an all-wheel-power drivetrain and multi-link suspension system.
It has a shorter turning cycle of less than 18 meters (60 feet) and a greater payload capacity of 17 tons.
