The deal, worth several hundred million euros, follows a similar contract awarded in December for the delivery of LLM-VarioRay laser-light modules over seven years.
This contract is part of a framework agreement originally concluded in June 2021 and was awarded following approval by the German Parliament in December 2025.
"Our versatile and battle-proven LLM-VarioRay is a key tactical combat enhancer for dismounted soldiers," Head of Rheinmetall's Digital Systems division, Timo Haas, said.
"This further major contract from the Bundeswehr demonstrates the troop's confidence in our capabilities and underlines the constructive cooperation between industry, procurement authorities, and the armed forces."
Contract Quantity
Deliveries will take place between 2026 and 2032 and include a six-figure number of modules.
According to German outlet Hartpunkt, a total of 250,000 units will be delivered under both contracts, with the latest order comprising 120,000 modules worth approximately 240 million euros ($279 million).
Rheinmetall Soldier Electronics will manufacture the devices at its facility in Stockach near Lake Constance, Germany, with additional contributions from small and medium-sized local suppliers.
LLM-VarioRay Laser-Light Module
The LLM-VarioRay is part of Rheinmetall’s latest generation of laser-light modules for modern assault rifles. Weighing around 250 grams (8.8 ounces) with its mount, it can be fitted to standard NATO rails and operated via a trigger cable.
It integrates a white-light LED, visible red laser, infrared laser, and a focusable infrared illuminator, enabling flexible mode selection based on mission requirements.
The system is also part of Germany’s Future Soldier – Extended System program, which connects soldiers through sensors, communications, and battlefield management tools.
Variants are in service across Europe: the British Army uses it as the Laser-Light-Module MK3, while the Swiss Army operates it as the Laser-Light-Module 19 for small-arms use in diverse operational conditions.
