Rheinmetall Landsysteme and Rheinmetall Hungary awarded the contract to Patria for the supply of at least 24 NEMO mortars as part of Hungary’s ZRINYI program.
Launched in 2017, the program aims to replace the country’s Soviet-era military equipment with modern technology.
A trial of NEMOs with the Lynx KF41 took place in September 2024, validating the mortar’s seamless integration with the Lynx platform.
“The supply agreement highlights the commitment of Patria and Rheinmetall to provide state-of-the-art solutions for the Hungarian programme, ensuring the continued enhancement of the armoured vehicle fleet’s capabilities,” a Patria statement read.
Patria’s NEMO
The 120 mm turreted mortar system features automated fire control capabilities and a semi-automatic loading mechanism.
It can deliver both direct and indirect fire support and is capable of firing six grenades at once.
Additionally, a lightweight modular design allows its integration with a range of tracked and wheeled platforms.
Hungarian Lynx KF41
The Hungarian Ministry of Defense awarded Rheinmetall a 2-billion-euro ($2.24-billion) contract in 2020 for the delivery of 209 Lynx vehicles.
Seven variants of the vehicle were to be delivered under the contract: infantry fighting, command post, reconnaissance, fire control, mortar carrier, medical, and driver training.
Once delivered, the Lynx will form the backbone of Hungary’s mechanized infantry forces.
