Rheinmetall has opened the Advanced Land Autonomy Centre of Excellence in the UK to advance the delivery and deployment of an artificial intelligence-enabled PATH autonomy kit.
Rheinmetall has opened the Advanced Land Autonomy Centre of Excellence (ALACOE) in the UK to advance the delivery and deployment of an artificial intelligence-enabled PATH autonomy kit.
The ALACOE is a specialized hub for integration, testing, and deployment of autonomous land systems, centered on the PATH technology that Rheinmetall Canada developed.
Part of a larger network of similar centers across Europe, the US, and Australia, the UK hub is intended to serve the local and surrounding markets, strengthen British sovereignty, and support NATO’s collective security.
It will also integrate UK-based companies into the supply chain to localize advanced autonomous technologies, creating high-value engineering and technology jobs in the country while supporting advanced manufacturing in Canada.
“Deploying the Canadian expertise and localizing the capability accelerates the delivery of advanced solutions, enhances long-term industrial resilience, and maximizes economic returns by expanding domestic participation in high-growth defense technologies,” said Rheinmetall Canada President and CEO Pietro Mazzei.
Rheinmetall PATH
PATH acts as an autonomous “brain” for military vehicles, providing perception, navigation, and decision-making capabilities.
The platform-agnostic suite is designed to operate in complex, contested, and GPS-degraded environments, enabling vehicles to conduct autonomous navigation, operate in leader-follower convoys, and perform dynamic obstacle avoidance in dense terrain, littoral zones, and harsh climates.
It has been demonstrated on more than 40 wheeled and tracked vehicles, including an HX2 development truck that was used in recent autonomous logistics training with British Army soldiers.
According to Rheinmetall, the technology has been tested and validated in multinational trials and competitions, including NATO‑linked experimentation and the European Land Robot Trials.
