A propellant charge enables the discharge of a shell from the barrel.
Europe has been struggling to meet the demand for artillery shells and propellants generated by the Ukraine war.
Shortage of Ammunition, Propellent
The shortage is partly due to the reliance on China for the supply of guncotton, a key ingredient of gunpowder.
Rheinmetall signed an agreement with Ukraine earlier this year to enhance strategic cooperation with the Ukrainian defense sector and establish domestic manufacturing capability.
Concrete projects at planning stages include the production of artillery ammunition and Lynx infantry fighting vehicles in Ukraine.
The German firm has already been awarded a 142-million-euro ($154 million) contract for the supply of 155mm artillery ammunition to Ukraine.
