A Russian MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Moscow
A Russian MiG-29 fighter jet crashed near Moscow on Friday, October 5, according to reports.
A law enforcement source told Tass that both pilots ejected, but their condition was unclear.
The plane crashed near Dmitrovskoye village while on a flight to Zhukovsky Airport in Moscow, The Moscow Times reported.
The aircraft crashed outside populated areas, and no casualties were recorded.
The MiG-29 belonged to the Gromov Flight Research Institute, according to Tass.
The Mikoyan MiG-29 (NATO reporting name Fulcrum) is a Russian-designed twin-engine fighter jet aircraft which entered service with the Soviet Union in 1982. It was originally intended as an air superiority fighter, but has also been developed into a multi-role aircraft.
In July, Poland grounded its MiG-29 fighter jet fleet after a fatal crash near Pasłęk in the north of the country.
In January, an Indian MiG-29K aircraft caught fire after leaving the runway while taking off from Naval Air Station Hansa in Goa.
