Major General Anatolii Kazmirchuk, surgeon general of the Medical Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, visited several UK defense and medical facilities for talks with senior British military health leaders.
Both sides agreed to expand research collaboration between the UK Defence Medical Services and Ukrainian medical institutions. That includes a new exchange program pairing UK defense clinical advisers with Ukrainian counterparts to share operational lessons and medical research.
Discussions focused heavily on medical challenges emerging from the war in Ukraine, particularly the impact of drone warfare on casualty evacuation, frontline treatment, and the movement of medical personnel in contested areas.
At the Defence Medical Academy in Lichfield, the Ukrainian delegation reviewed ongoing training programs for Ukrainian military medical personnel and discussed wider multinational cooperation efforts.
The visit builds on a cooperation agreement signed last year between the Defence Medical Academy and the Ukrainian Military Medical Academy covering military medical education, joint training, and scientific research.
“Thanks to the valuable exchange of experience and knowledge, wounded Ukrainian service personnel are either returning to service or being successfully rehabilitated and reintegrated back into civilian life,” Kazmirchuk said.
UK-Ukraine Defense Cooperation
Military medical cooperation is part of a broader expansion of defense ties between London and Kyiv over the past year.
The countries signed a technology-sharing agreement in September 2025 that allows participating contractors to share and develop intellectual property, expand tactical equipment production, and attract investment.
One initiative under the partnership is Project OCTOPUS, focused on an advanced interceptor drone that will be mass-produced in the UK. Ukraine has already ordered 8,000 Octopus interceptor drones to strengthen defenses against Shahed-type aerial threats.
