A Ukrainian pilot died when his fighter jet crashed, the armed forces said on Saturday, December 15, the second such incident in two months.
The Sukhoi Su-27, which was on a scheduled flight, crashed while coming in to land in the northern Jytomyr region at around 1500 (1300 GMT), the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine said in a Facebook post.
The Su-27 (NATO reporting name: Flanker) is a super-maneuverable twin-engine fighter jet aircraft designed by Sukhoi. It first entered service in 1985.
On October 16, a Ukrainian and a American pilot died when their two-seat Su-27 crashed during the Clear Sky 2018 military exercises involving eight NATO countries. The drills were held as Ukrainian government forces and Russian-backed separatists in the east of the country face off in a conflict that has already claimed more than 10,000 lives.
