Brigadier General Kioumars Heydari revealed that the country has developed and produced advanced unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to support reconnaissance and combat operations.
He also highlighted the structural changes in Iran’s armed forces, allowing for accelerated weapons modernization for increased operational range and accuracy.
Heydari’s announcement comes a week after the US accused Iran of preparing to supply Russia with hundreds of drones to be used in its invasion of Ukraine.
Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian denied the allegation in a recent phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart.
Increasing Defense Investments
Iran has recently spent millions of dollars to bolster its defense capabilities by manufacturing high-powered weapons and equipment.
Earlier this month, the country said it plans to establish five new military units dedicated to UAVs.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps has also unveiled underground military bases housing powerful missiles and drones.
The bases can reportedly launch 60 drones simultaneously with “no target limitation.”
Additionally, Tehran claims to have developed a surface-to-surface missile with the range to strike regional arch-enemy Israel.
