Elbit Systems is outfitting its unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) with what it calls the “world’s first true hybrid” propulsion system.

Under a recent deal with Lowental Hybrid, Elbit’s drones will use the Native Parallel Hybrid system, designed to enable seamless transition between combustion and electric flight without major airframe modifications.

The system could reportedly push drone flight up to five times longer, with in-flight charging and low-noise operation suitable for covert intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions.
