A Russian Sukhoi Su-24 ground attack aircraft crashed on takeoff in Syria on Tuesday, October 10, killing the aircraft's pilots.
Russia's defense ministry said the incident occurred as the aircraft, which was on a combat mission, was accelerating for takeoff at Hmeimim Air Base in the western Latakia governorate, TASS reported.
"The plane’s crew failed to eject and died," the ministry said, adding that a technical malfunction may have been the cause of the incident.
